Een terugkeer naar Griekenland in eerder winterse omstandigheden: erg koud in Frankrijk en Zwitserland, besneeuwde landschappen na de Gotthardtunnel (CH) en in Italië - veel sneeuw langs de snelweg Milaan-Bologna en temperaturen om en bij 3-4 graden, zelfs tot bij Ancona liggen sneeuwresten, getuigen van de gure sneeuwstorm met zeer hevige wind waaraan we gelukkig net ontsnapt zijn. De SUPERFAST XI ferry naar IGOUMENITSA zal er niet in slagen de vertraging van meer dan 2 uur die opgelopen was door de storm, die het trans-Adriatische verkeer danig in de war had gestuurd, in te halen. De zeventien uurlange overtocht verloopt echter heel rustig en comfortabel : goede externe kajuit en heel lekker restaurent - de lekkere fava met zachte octopus als voorgerecht, moussaka en de fijne lavraki filets ( zeewolf )met een mooi assortiment gevarieerde groenten geven ons al een geslaagde voorsmaak van de Griekse keuken die ons wacht en altijd erg bevalt.
De doortocht van west naar oost - eerst via de zoals steeds weinig drukke Egnatia snelweg door het bergachtige Epiros tot net voorbij Metsovon, dan de afdaling naar de vlakte van Thessalië, Kalambaka en de Meteora, verder via Trikala en Larissa - gaat heel vlot. Van de winter zijn we plots in een kleurrijke lente beland met een middagtemperatuur van rond 20 graden. De ring rond Volos brengt ons snel naar de weg die langs de oostelijke zijde van het Trikeri schiereiland loopt. Sporen van kleine grondverschuivingen - vooral tussen Afissos en Afetai - getuigen van de overvloedige regenval in februari.
Geen schade aan het huis, geen in de tuin - een erg groot verschil tengevolge van de barre vrieskoude vorig jaar - en een mooie verwelkoming van onze twee ( de hele winter door goed verzorgde ) katten, Sam en GriGri.
Un retour en Grèce dans des conditions plutôt hivernales: très froid en France et en Suisse, paysages de neige après le tunnel du Gothard (CH) et en Italie - beaucoup de neige le long de l’autoroute Milan-Bologne et des températures avoisinant les 3-4 degrés, même à Ancône il y a des restes de neige, témoin de la très forte tempête de neige avec vent violent à laquelle nous venons heureusement d'échapper. Le ferry SUPERFAST XI pour Igoumenitsa ne réussira pas à rattraper le retard causé par la tempête, qui a fortement désorganisé le trafic trans-Adriatique. La traversée de dix-sept heure est très calme et confortable: notre la cabine externe est parfaite et le restaurent excellent - fava et poulpe ( bien tendre ), jambon cru et fromages de chèvre chauds en entrée, moussaka, filets de lavraki ( bar ) avec un accompagnement de légumes variés nous donnent un avant-goût réussi de cette cuisine grecque qui nous attend et nous plaît toujours tant.
Le passage d'’ouest en est - d'abord la traversée de cette partie montagneuse de l'Epire par l'autoroute toujours peu fréquentée Egnatia jusqu'à la sortie après Metsovon, puis la descente vers la plaine de Thessalie, Kalambaka et les Météores, ensuite par Trikala et Larissa - se passe sans encombre. De l’hiver nous sommes tout à coup passés dans un printemps multicolore avec des températures à mi-journée d’environ 20 degrés. La ceinture qui contourne Volos nous amène rapidement à la route qui longe la côte orientale de la péninsule de Trikeri. Des traces de petits glissements de terrain, surtout entre Afissos et Afetai - attestent des pluies particulièrement abondantes en février.
Aucun dommage à la maison, ni dans le jardin - une très grande différence avec les conséquences du gel sévère l’an dernier – et un bel accueil de la part de nos deux chats , Sam et GriGri ( tout l’hiver confiés aux bons soins de notre amie ).
A return to Greece in winter conditions: very cold in France and Switzerland, snowy landscapes after the Gotthard tunnel (CH) and in Italy - a lot of snow along the highway Milan-Bologna and temperatures around 3-4 degrees Celsius, even at Ancona are snow remains, testifies to the inclement snow storm with very heavy winds which we fortunately just escaped. The passage from West to East - first the crossing of the mountainous Epirus by the less busy Egnatia motorway until just past Metsovon, then the descent to the plain of Thessaly, Kalambaka and the Meteora, further via Trikala and Larissa - goes without troubles or stress. From the winter, we suddenly pass in a colourful spring with at noon around 20 degrees Celsius. The ring around Volos brings us rapidly to the road that runs along the eastern side of the Trikeri peninsula. Traces of small landslides - particularly between Afissos and Afetai - attest to the abundant rainfall in February.
No damage to the house, nor in the garden - a very big difference with what we found last year after the harsh frost - and a nice welcoming by our two all winter well-groomed cats, Sam and GriGri.
op de weg: - de twee overwegen bij het verlaten van van Kalambaka, op de goede 2x2 rijstroken weg naar Trikala, liggen er nog steeds ( na vele jaren ) vreselijk bij - we rijden er stapvoets over - anderzijds wordt er werk gemaakt van een snelwegverbinding, via Trikala en Karpenissi, tussen de Egnatiesnelweg en Lamia ( en daar dan met de snelweg Thessaloniki-Athene ). Het vak tussen Trikala ( waar op de ringweg een rotonde werd aangelegd ) en Lamia lijkt afgewerkt met bijhorende tolposten. Het vak Egnatia-Trikala waardoor het vrij drukke (vracht)verkeer de smalle bergweg van Metsovon naar Kalambaka zou kunnen vermijden, is nog in aanbouw. De werken op de expressweg afrit Velestino-Volos zijn nog steeds over een niet onbelangrijk deel aan gang; er zijn verscheide omleidingen langs de smallere parallelweg.
Les travaux sur la route express sortie Velestino-Volos sont toujours en cours sur une large partie de trajet, des contournements et déviations par l'étroite route parallèle sont prévus.

Maar er is wat werk: huis en tuin wachten op stevige onderhoudsbeurt, de olijf- en citrusbomen wenken voor de jaarlijkse onderhoudssnoei. In Lechonia waar we ons heen haasten is de boot in goede conditie hoewel een stevige schoonmaakbeurt allerdringendst is! Een moeilijke winter, weet Meneloas, de werfeigenaar, ons te vertellen, veel regen, erg veel wind, enkele bevingen gelukkig zonder schade; het kon veel beter, lijkt hij te vinden.
Mais pas mal de travail nous attend: la maison et le jardin ont besoin d'un bel entretien, les oliviers et les agrumes invitent à la taille annuelle. A Lechonia où nous nous hâtons notre bateau se porte bien mais un nettoyage à grande eau savonneuse est urgent ! Un hiver difficile, nous dit Menelaos, le propriétaire du chantier, des torrents de pluie, énormément de vents forts, quelques petits tremblements de terre heureusement sans dégâts; cela aurait pu être mieux, semble-t-il vouloir dire. :

Kato Lechonia.
Zoals elk jaar reinigt en controleert Kaat de mast; dit jaar moeten ook de vlaggelijntjes en -blokjes worden vervangen. Onze vuurpijlen zijn intussen na drie jaar weer op vervaldatum gekomen : 3 rode handstakellichten, 3 parachutevuurpijlen en 1 rooksignaal. Op Lefkas-eiland - waar onze boot gedurende vier jaar konden we bij Ionian Safety terecht: bij de aankoop van de nieuwe werden de oude teruggenomen. Ionian Safety was eveneens controlestation : konden we er dus ook terecht voor de periodieke controles van ons reddingsvlot en reddingvesten; een gemakkelijke oplossing en ze boden een goede service. Niets van dit helemaal in de nabijheid van Volos. Niettemin, de zeer vriendelijke shipchandler in Volos aanvaardt om zich over onze oude vuurpijlen te ontfermen - om u te helpen, vertelt hij, nadat we een beetje aandringen. In het verleden, toen de boot in België was, waren er twee opties: of we brachten ze naar de brandweer of we konden wachten tot onze zeilclub (de VYN-VVW) een toegestane "vuurpijlen sessie organiseerde.Voor het reddingsvlot hebben we hier nu drie mogelijkheden: of deze naar een service/control station in Athene sturen, of voor een paar dagen naar Lefkas rijden, of het vlot meenemen naar Nieuwpoort (B) ... wat we deden voor de laatste controle/service! Tijdens ons gesprek met de shipchandler van de Volos horen we weer hoe Lefkas en de Ionian in het algemeen - worden beschouwd als... een ander Griekenland, met zijn enorm aantal zeilboten en het bijhorende drukke toerisme, waardoor allerlei diensten veel gemakkelijker en eenvoudiger te vinden zijn ... ze zijn immers veel winstgevender !
Gemakkelijker en eenvoudiger, ja zeker, maar niet alleen de diensten, ook de bureaucratische procedures, zoals we inmiddels ervaren als we naar het kantoor van de coastguards/havenpolitie in Volos stappen voor de jaarlijkse DEKPA-visa ( permit to cruise ) stempel; opnieuw moesten we hier copies van alle vereiste bootdocumenten inleveren terwijl b.v. in Lefkas alleen het voorleggen ervan wordt gevraagd ... zoals overigens bepaald in het antwoord op onze klacht door het hoofdkantoor in Piraeus !
Comme chaque année Kaat nettoie et contrôle le mât; cette année il lui faut également remplacer les poulies de barre de flèche ainsi que les drisses pour le pavillon de courtoisie et le guidon de club. Tous les trois ans nos fusées de détresse arrivent à expiration : 3 feux à main rouges, 3 fusées parachute et 1 signal de fumée. Sur l'île de Lefkas, où nous avons gardé notre bateau pendant quatre ans, nous avons pu nous adresser à Ionian Safety : lors de l'achat des nouvelles fusées ils reprenaient les anciennes. Comme Ionian Safety était également station de contrôle agrée nous pouvions y faire effectuer aussi les contrôles périodiques de notre survie et des gilets de sauvetage; une solution pratique, et ils offraient un bon service. Rien de tout cela dans les parages de Volos. Néanmoins, le très sympathique ship chandler à Volos accepte - pour vous aider, dit-il - après quelque insistance. Dans le passé, lorsque le bateau était en Belgique, nous avions deux options: soit remettre les fusées aux pompiers soit attendre que le club (le VYN-VVW) organise une session fusées autorisée par les autorités. Pour la survie, nous avons ici trois possibilités: soit l'envoyer à une station de service/contrôle à Athènes, soit nous rendre à Lefkas pour quelques jours, soit emporter l'encombrante survie à Nieuport (B) ... ce que nous avons fait lors du dernier contrôle! Au cours de notre conversation avec le ship chandler de Volos, nous avons de nouveau pu entendre comment Lefkas - et l' Ionienne, en général - est considéré comme... une autre Grèce, avec son très grand nombre de voiliers et l'intense tourisme, ce qui permet des services nombreux, faciles et simples d'accès et qui surtout rends ceux-ci très lucratifs ...
Plus faciles et simples ... et pas seulement les services, les procédures bureaucratiques également, comme nous pouvons nous en rendre compte lors de notre visite - annuelle ! - au bureau des gardes-côtesà Volos pour obtenir le fameux cachet sur notre DEKPA ( permis de croisière ); à nouveau nous devons remettre les photocopies de tous les documents requis alors qu'à Lefkas p.ex. il suffit de présenter documents et papiers d'identité ... tout comme du reste il est stipulé dans la réponse à notre plainte par le le bureau principal du Pirée !
Like every year Kaat cleans and checks the mast; here she's renewing the spreader blocks and halyards for the burgee and courtesy ensign. Preparing the boat we have to replace our distress flares - 3 parachute flares + 3 red handheld flares + 1 buoyant smoke signal - as they come at expiration date every three years. On Lefkas island - where our boat was berthed during four years - Ionian Safety, took back expired flares when buying new ones. This shop and authorized control station offered also an easy solution, and good service, for the periodic checks of our liferaft and lifebelts. Nothing of this at all in the vicinity of Volos. Nevertheless, the very kind shipchandler in Volos accept to take our old flares back - to help you, he tells us, after we are little insisting. In the past, when the boat was in Belgium, there were two options: or bringing them to the fire brigade or waiting till our sailing club ( the VYN-VVW ) organized an authorized " flares session ". For the liferaft we have in the future three options: or sending it to a service / control station in Athens, or visiting for a few days Lefkas, or taking this big pack with us when returning to Nieuwpoort (B) ... what we did for the last check / service ! During our talk in the Volos shipchandler's shop we hear again how Lefkas - and the Ionian in general - is considered as ... another Greece, with its huge number of sailing boats and its associated busy tourism, making services a lot more easy, simple and lucrative!
Easy and simple ... yeah, but not only the services ... the bureaucratic procedures too ... as we have experienced when going to the port police / coastguards office in Volos for the yearly DEKPA ( = permit to cruise ) visa stamp: again ( = yearly ! ) we had to provide copies of all boat- and ID documents while e.g. in Lefkas only the submitting of the documents is required ... as stipulated by the response we got from the headquarter in Piraeus ...

Een zomer met enkele hevige onweders en stevige regen ... een hier eerder ongewoon weerpatroon tijdens de zomer terwijl hittegolven en droogtes de rest Europa - en zelfs tot in het Noorden - teisteren ! Maar gelukkig hier meer dan elders na regen komt snel zonneschijn !
Un été avec des orages particulièrement violents et de fortes précipitations ... une météo plutôt inhabituelle ici à cette époque alors que canicules et sécheresses sévissent dans le reste de l'Europe, même du Nord ! Mais heureusement, ici plus qu'ailleurs après la pluie le beau temps revient rapidement !
A Summer with a heavy thunderstorms with a lot of rain ... rather uncommon summer weather here while heat waves and droughts remain prevalent in the rest of Europe even in the North. But luckely, here more than elsewhere, after the bad weather the nice weather is quickly back !

SUNSAILBASE MILINA/VATHOUDI CLOSED: Due to changes in the Sunsail-offer in Greece the base of Milina-Vathoudi is closed since 2014. The pontoons inc. water- and power supplies, and showers have been removed. NEW: A&C YACHTING MILINA: The former managers of the base, Andy and Christine, have started in 2014 their own charter company; they are operating with two boats based in the small harbour of Milina: A&C Yachting Milina ( http://www.ac-yachtingmilina.com ); they provide also technical support, engine repairs, diving works like mooring maintenance etc., and assistance Tel: +30 2423 065597, Mobile: +30 693 7262731 MILINA: At the present time limited water and power supplies only in this small harbour.
The GREEK TAXNUMMER Α.Φ.Μ. [A.F.M.]: an other - significant ! - experience with the Greek bureaucracy
The so-called taxnumber Α. Φ. Μ. [A.F.M.] is a national number (in Belgium the identification number in the National Register of Natural Persons is officially called national register number ) or - in some countries - a social security number. From the age of 18 years all Greeks have the obligation to get a taxnumber The Α. Φ. Μ. [A.F.M.] consists of 9 digits. Until a few years ago, a taxsnumber was not required for a non-resident foreigner who was staying in Greece little longer than a short touristic period but not involved by contractual services (e.g. a phone and or internet account ). In matters where a taxnumber was required, for example to obtain a DEKPA before the 1st of January 2017 , it was allowed - and it's still - to fulfil some formalities with the help of a willing Greek friend. So our Greek friend accompanied us in Volos, first to the Office of the Port Police/Coastguard to fill up the request form, then to the Tax Office in order to pay the tax of 29.35 euro. A temporary and to this matter limited statement for the use of his taxnumber saved us the procedure to obtain a personal taxnumber. The whole issue of tax discipline and tax collection has, however, led to the fact that a personal taxnumber is more and more required: so for the conclusion of a contract e.g. with an internet and / or mobile/phone provider, when renting a house or apartment, to purchase an insurance, in order to register a vessel under Greek flag or a motor vehicle, and even to pay a fine. In short, in most contractual issues or actions when the Greek administration is directly or indirectly involved. In 2008 arriving in Greece after our Italian coasts sailings we could get a VODAFONE internet account only by Direct debit of our credit card without having a personal taxnumber but by providing also a cruising statement issued for this purpose by the K&G marina in Corfu. The other phone and internet providers - COSMOTE, WIND - required a private taxnumber.

[A.F.M.] with our ID card or passport - filling up the monolingual-Greek form - being accompanied by a free choosen Greek representative or submitting a (legalized) certificate containing his identity data; the representative must be registered in the tax area ( e.g. Magnesia ) where the taxnumber is requested ( e.g. Volos ); in fact the representative acts as an known and having his home in Greece contact person for the administration |
